Recrystalization and Encapsulation of Bioactive Compounds
in Supercritical Medium

Course description: This short course comprises a brief review of the state of the art regarding encapsulation techniques (SAS, SEDS, GAS, ASES, PCA, etc.) with focus on the solution enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS) method. Especial attention is devoted to recrystallization and co-precipitation of solutes in supercritical carbon dioxide, investigating the effects of processing parameters (temperature, flow rate of solution and antisolvent, drying rate, initial concentration of the solid in solution, diameter and length of the capillary expansion tube and pressure gradient between the organic solution feed and the precipitation chamber) on the recrystallization and encapsulation of some solutes (theophylline, beta-carotene, astaxanthin, grape seed oil, etc.)

Modeling of Solid Substrates Extraction

Course description : This short course is about the possibilities and potential of applying supercritical fluid extraction for the extraction of active ingredients, natural colors, essential oils, antioxidants and vitamins with application in food, beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The course will show some applications that have been made and the products that have been obtained. Supercritical technology has a high potential for adding value to our biodiversity by developing useful products for the mentioned areas.
